Peter Haward

Peter Haward, who died in 2001, was one of the most significant figures of his generation in the world of horology. When employed by Thwaites and Reed, he was responsible for such classics as the reproduction deDondi clocks, Fortnum and Mason's automaton clock in Piccadilly and many others. In business as Haward Horological he continued to construct new and ingenious public clocks and reproductions of ancient horological masterpieces as well as running a highly successful repair business specialising in turret clocks. His son, Ian continues the business, while his daughter, Stella has her own repair business - Dicky Tickers of Ipswich

Peter was a member of the BHI Ipswich branch for 25 years, and a major influence in the development of horology in the region. This exhibition was the first opportunity we had to commemorate him in a public arena. Unfortunately most of his work is large and not available for loan, so we gathered together what we could to give a taste of the many fine things he created in the course of a long career.
